We are less than a week away from Halloween, so what better time to dig on a trailer for a movie about Santa. Ok, not convinced? How about a trailer for a darker version behind the jolly fat guy mythology? Apple has posted a trailer for RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE, which is a darker take on the Christmas hero.
The film comes from Finland and carries a plot as follows: On the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, an archaeological dig unearths Santa Claus. This particular Santa, however, isn’t the one you want coming to town. When most of the town’s children go missing, Pietari and his father, a local hunter named Rauno, come into possession of the mythological being. Rauno’s clan of hunters attempt to cash in on the opportunity by selling Santa back to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig.
The film was written and directed by Jalmar Helander and stars Tommi Korpela, Per Christian Ellefsen, Jorma Tommila and Jonathan Hutchings. It has played at several filmfests this year and is set to be released in Finland on December 3, 2010. No news as to a release date in the states.
