“The Dark Knight Rises”. That is the title of the third installment in Christopher Nolan’s brilliant Batman series. This is according to an interview that Nolan did with Geoff Boucher at the LA Times Hero Complex blog. Call me a dork, but that title made me giddy. Mostly because my favorite moment of “The Dark Knight” was the ending monologue by Gary Oldman’s Commissioner Gordon and the title alone suggests the redemption of Batman. Yes…that was a geeky sentence. I can’t help it.
However, the bad news from the interview is that Nolan is confirming that The Riddler will not be the villain in the flick. I have to admit, I kind of had my heart set on potentially seeing Tom Hardy or Joseph Gordon-Levitt go full sociopath with that part. Yes, it could be potentially close to The Joker and that is what is thought to give Nolan pause on the character. So no Riddler means the villain is still unknown. Please Mr. Nolan, do not make it Killer Croc. That is so unbelievably lame.
The best thing to come from this interview? No 3-D. Nolan will keep trucking with the high definition film and IMAX in sections, which really made “The Dark Knight” such a killer experience. I initially saw it in a regular theater, then was blown away when I saw it on IMAX. I’ll take “The Dark Knight” in IMAX over “Avatar” in 3-D every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
