Vulture reports that director Tarsem (a.k.a. Tarsem Singh) is in talks with Relativity Media to a Snow White film, titled The Brothers Grimm: Snow White from a script by Melisa Wallack. Producer Brett Ratner (yeah, I know) describes the film as “edgy” and having “more comedy” than the Walt Disney classic.
Also, it’s going to have a dragon in it. What’s stranger is that this makes three competing Snow White projects: Universal’s got Snow White and the Huntsman while Disney itself is prepping Snow White and the Seven, which replaces the dwarves with — wait for it — Shaolin monks.
It’s unclear if Ratner intended on directing The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, but Tarsem will be a much better fit if he accepts the job. I haven’t seen The Cell, but The Fall was visually stunning if muddled by all those dull real-life scenes, as movies like that often are. Guy needs to direct a mainstream fantasy film and blow everybody’s mind.
