Natalie Portman is rumored to top the hotlist of actresses considered for the female lead in Ridley Scott’s prequel to “Alien.” No exact details have been yet revealed regarding the cast and plot, but, according to Vulture, the former “Lost” co-writer Damon Lindelof completed the latest draft of the movie. Apparently it will bring us back to the part-horror, part-suspense feeling of the original “Alien” and will also explain the origins of the creature, thus instantly killing a part of its creepy appeal.
As for Portman, she certainly sounds like a good choice. She’s beautiful, smart and slightly mysterious actress with an intense screen presence. Despite playing space queens and lovely ladies quite a lot, she proved to be just as capable as a skinhead rebel in “V for Vendetta.”
On the other hand, she has a lot of competition in pursuit of the role, her rumored biggest threat being Swedish Noomi Rapace a.k.a. “The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo” who also “Played with Fire” and “Kicked Hornet’s Nest.” She looks like a proper Ripley type a lot more and it’s easier to imagine her fighting a whole monster army than Portman. On the other hand Portman is a huge star, while Rapace is just starting her way towards worldwide fame. Sounds like Scott has a tough choice to make. I vote Rapace, and you?
