Its not been a good week for movie reviews for me. I just finished watching Jonah Hex and followed it up with Lost Boys The Thirst and needless to say I am in desperate need of a good movie to watch. I am a huge fan of the original Lost Boys movie since it is an absolute classic and is easily one of the best teen vampire movies ever made. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman had a fantastic dynamic in that movie that made them famous and resulted in a Top 10 Vampire movie for horror fans. Unfortunately that can not be said for Lost Boys 2, or this now the third film Lost Boys 3: The Thirst.
The premise of Lost boys 3 is that as the lost boys and girls of San Cazador prepare to party under the Blood Moon, an alpha vampire conspires to turn these unsuspecting ravers into an army of undead. The only thing that stands between him and the annihilation of the entire human race is the infamous vampire fighting Frog Brothers. Armed with double-barrel holy water balloon launchers and multi-arrow crossbows, Edgar (Corey Feldman) and Alan Frog (Jamison Newlander) join forces to kick some blood-sucker butt in this latest high-energy, action packed adventure in the Lost Boys franchise.
Frankly it is not worth me spending much time talking about this movie since its pretty much what you might expect from a low budget studio title. It’s a cash in on the classic original and is admittedly slightly better then Lost Boys 2 but it is still not a very good film. The visual FX’s are stepped up and the story is a unique one but it is completely unable to capture the magic of the first film. Corey Feldman once again stars but Feldman once again is unable to deliver a believable character. The script seems to want to portray him as a lone wolf vampire hunter living a troubled life after the loss of his friends but the combination of a weak cast of actors, horrible writing and a muddled direction make Lost Boys 3 The Thirst a hot mess that deserved to be dumped direct to dvd.
I am a huge fan of The Lost Boys movies and frankly in watching the movie it did bring back some nostalgia for the first film but even that is not enough to encourage you to watch or buy this movie. It comes off as a really bad take on BLADE and is frankly not the worst vampire movie ever made but is certainly not a good vampire movie. If you cant get enough of Corey Feldman or are a complete nut over Lost Boys then check it out but I would suggest renting it not buying it.
If your planning a Lost Boys night pickup this movie and Lost Boys 2 and this one but watch them in reverse order. Lost Boys 3, then Lost Boys 2 and then Lost Boys. The continuity really wont matter and you will end up having at the very least a good ending to your evening as you wallow through the horrible sequels and complete your night with the original which is a classic!
