“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” – a book that surely had Jane Austin not only turning in her grave but also trying to dig herself out in order to find and strangle the author of this blasphemous exploitation – proves just as tricky to make into a movie.
Previously David O. Russell as director and Natalie Portman as Elizabeth Bennett were rumored to be involved in the project. But since they stepped down, the search for replacements remains in full gear. Deadline reports that while still planning to work on the movie, Russell had picked out Scarlett Johansson as Miss Bennett and Bradely Cooper as Mr. Darcy in this horrific take on a famous classics. Seems like a pretty good choice, but now the cast remains a big question mark. Other actresses reportedly in the talks for the movie include Mia Wasikowka of Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and Tilda Swinton.
As for directors penned for future production, the list includes David Slade (“30 Days of Night”), Mike Newell (“Harry Potter and the Goblet f Fire”) and Neil Marshall (“Doomsday”). Either of them may have to adapt “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” for Lionsgate. In the story Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters are forced to give up dancing, gossiping and dreaming of their princes charming, and learn to fight zombies under Mr. Darcy’s guidance instead.
