Piranha 3D opened a few months back and charmed horror fans with its gratuitous violence and bare chested babes, and now they are likely going to get more of the same. Deadline broke the news that John Gulager (FEAST), has been chosen to direct Piranha 3DD, the fast tracked sequel to this year’s bloody re-imagining. Coming along for the ride to write the film is two more FEAST veterans, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who also have put in work on a few of the SAW sequels.
There is currently no other information regarding the plot details for Piranha 3DD, but I think at this point it’s safe to assume that there will be plenty of carnage in store for us come next year. With a director like John Gulager behind camera, it’s bound to have a lot of cooky laughs and barrells of blood being dumped in every direction. There is also no word on rather or not any of the surviving cast will be returning. Piranha 3D, as directed by Alexandre Aja didn’t burn up the domestic box office, but it did carry a minimal budget of around $24 million, and has since grossed over that total, therefore justifying a sequel be rushed into production. It’s likely that the studio will employ a “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” mentality to Gulager and company, but rest assured with the FEAST guys behind the wheel, the film is going to be a ton of fun.
