” I’m personally open to other things but I think that’s what the studio wants, because this movie didn’t do very well so I think the feeling is that Chucky’s viability, his future is in the more straightforward horror vein. I was talking about the rights issues before, I don’t think it’s necessarily what we’ll end up doing as a strict remake. I think we’ll reboot it in the sense that it will just be more conventionally scary and it will only be Chucky and we won’t have Tiffany and Glen, but it won’t necessarily be a strict remake”
Don Mancini is the writer of all five films featuring Chucky and also mentions in the interview that he could possibly be in line to direct the new film should it ever get off the ground. Mancini mentions that his original mythology behind Chucky was not what ended up in the first film, so should a remake get the thumbs up I actually kind of hope he revisits his original idea.
I was always a fan of the CHILD’S PLAY films even as they reverted to the slapstick comedy approach in BRIDE OF CHUCKY and the last film so far in the series, SEED OF CHUCKY. As much as I love the first film I am not completely opposed to going back and giving our favorite Good Guy doll a new and hopefully more disturbing makeover. Head on over to Screen Junkies for the rest of the interview with Mancini.
