Unbeknownst to me Michael J Fox did not get the role of Marty McFly he only was given the part after the lead actor was replaced because his comedic timing was not working.
Eric Stoltz was originally cast in the role and they shot for 5 weeks with him before finally replacing him with Michael J Fox. This role shot Michael J Fox to fame and is easily the most recognized role for him in film outside of perhaps The Frighteners.
