1986′s Aliens:
The Exorcist made us afraid of the Devil, Jaws made us afraid of the water and Aliens made us afraid of the monsters that lurk in space. The story is of a mining team in deep space who bring on an alien being that quickly turns on the crew with vicious results.
This is one of the Top 5 sci-fi films of all time and deserved to win more accolades in my view but ended up walking away with a Best Visual Effects Oscar and an Oscar for Sound Editing.
1986′s The Fly:
There was a time that Jeff Goldblum was one of my favorite actors. His role in The Fly is why. The Fly is the story of a doctor working on a new form of teleportation technology who begins testing on himself and inadvertently morphs his DNA and that of a Fly during transport. His downward spiral as The Fly is both gruesome and though provoking.
The Fly much like many of the films on this list own an Oscar for Best Achievement in Makeup.
1992′s Bram Stokers Dracula:
Many would say that Keanu Reeves could not act his way out of a paper bag. That might be true but their are certain roles that fit him like a glove and Bram Stokers Dracula is one of them. Keanu Reeves stars as a man who looses his fiance played by Winona Ryder to Dracula and must seek out his love and exact revenge at the same time.
The film was nominated for four oscars and won three, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Makeup.
